In a join venture between the Villages of Larchmont and Mamaroneck Police Department a multi-jurisdictional SWAT team was formed last year and operates under the name Sound Shore SWAT.
The Sound Shore Special Weapons and Tactics Team is comprised of an aggregate nineteen, specially trained, police officers and is responsible for the resolution of situations requiring other than normal police actions, tactics, or equipment.
The goal of the team is to resolve situations while limiting hazards to citizens and police personnel. The team's activities include, but are not limited to, the following missions: high risk warrant service, barricaded suspects, hostage situations, armed stakeout, tactical operations, crowd control duties, and any other specialized operation the team may be called upon to handle.
Sound Shore SWAT Team personnel provide service to the Mamaroneck Village and Larchmont Village Police Departments. Many team members are certified instructors and provide training in such areas as firearms, defensive tactics, response to active shooter, and building searches.
